Nafplio Marathon took place for the first time in 2014. It was the combined effort of the Municipal Organization for Sport, Culture, Tourism and Environment of Municipal of Nafplio, the Regional Union of Argolis, the Peloponnese EAS Athletics Federation, the Harvard University’s Center for Hellenic Studies in Greece, the Argolis runner’s club and with the help of Ministry of Sports and Hellenic Athletics Federation.

The 1st Nafplio Marathon was a huge success because the athlete participation surpassed every expectation, the organization was of the highest standard and all the authorities were flawlessly cooperated.

Volunteers were an important part of this success and they supported with enthusiasm and consistency this event. Also the citizens of Nafplio were a great part of the success as they responded with good faith and participated at all times, either good or bad.

The event comprised of a marathon run, a half marathon, a 5km race with power walking and a 2,5km charity race for the poor of Evangelistria Nafplio church. There were more than 3000 participants, covering all ages.

They all carried the message of athletic spirit and sportsmanship. One of the greatest displays was the participation of Special Olympics athletes as well as mothers with their children.
